Renee Houser
Assistant Registrar
University of Iowa

Renee has been in the field of classroom scheduling for 16+ years in both course and special event scheduling. Her first 13 years of experience was under the direction of the campus’ Facilities Management leadership. The past three years have been under Provost management in the Office of the Registrar. Experiences from both angles of the campus has provided her valuable experience and knowledge in many aspects of classroom management.

Renee participated in the first installation of Astra Schedule in 2001 and is eagerly anticipating the full rollout of version 7. She enjoys many aspects of her current position in Classroom Scheduling where problem solving and creative thinking play a large part to ensure success for faculty and students in the classrooms. A recent accomplishment has been to coordinate, develop and study a proposal to modify the official class start times, create an additional class meeting time on TR, and enhance current standardized scheduling blocks for the general assignment classrooms. The Class Time Initiative proposal was approved and will be implemented in fall 2011. She was recently asked to join a team charged to reassess the final examination processes and policies for roll out in conjunction with the fall 2011 Class Time Initiative as a key student success component. The Astra Schedule examination module will play a large role in the accomplishment of this new process.

In summer 2008, Renee participated in a case study with Ad Astra as a result of the serious flood that impacted her campus. She looks forward to serving on the Client Advisory Board to share current best practices and ideas for future direction of the software product to benefit all her fellow Astra users.
