Tom Shaver, Founder and CEO
Tom Shaver is Founder and CEO of Ad Astra Information Systems, a software technology company based in Overland Park, Kansas. He launched Ad Astra Information Systems in 1996 to provide scheduling technology solutions for higher education institutions.
Under Shaver’s leadership, the company has grown steadily to offer classroom scheduling and event management software products and consulting services to customers worldwide (primarily in the United States and Canada). More than 800 college and university campuses have licensed Ad Astra software products and services since 1996 to help them with their facilities scheduling, event management, resource management and more.
Shaver began his career in 1987 as the third generation working with his family’s architectural and consulting company named The Shaver Partnership. He began working with his father, John Shaver, who specialized in building design for universities.
The experience was instrumental in helping him launch Ad Astra. The consulting work evolved to include software to support an innovative, capacity-based model for academic space management and a student-centric model for course offering management. Additionally, a popular consulting service based on both models has been developed called Strategic Scheduling Check-Up. Today, he is also actively involved as the lead consultant for the team that develops and presents these studies that establish a framework and business justification for better management of academic resources on college and university campuses.
In 2004, Shaver authored a United States business process patent application that was recently approved. The patent protects Ad Astra’s inventions in the scheduling software market including: student-specific course demand analysis, historical analysis of course demand and student availability, and high-impact schedule refinement.
Shaver graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas.
Jackie Shaver, President
Jackie Shaver is the President of Ad Astra Information Systems and has been with the company since its inception. She graduated with a BA Honours in Political Science from The University of Western Ontario. Jackie's background includes experience in the areas of Training and Development, Performance Management and Customer service. As President of the company her primary role is Guardian of the Culture. Her primary focus in this regard is Marketing, Communication, Employee Engagement and Community Involvement. Her passion is making Ad Astra a great company that makes a real difference in the lives of its employees, partner institutions and society.
Sue Hickerson, Chief Financial Officer
Sue graduated from the University of Kansas with a B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration. She began her career with Ernst & Young and then spent 10 in the years in the Insurance Industry with Assurant where she was a Manager in their Internal Audit Department. Sue has now been with Ad Astra Information Systems for over 10 years. She is responsible for monitoring and protecting Ad Astra's financial health, as well as overseeing Human Resources. She is actively involved in helping grow the Company.
Sarah Collins, Chief Business Officer
Sarah graduated with a B.S. in Education from Kansas State University. She brings with her 15 years of experience as an educator, software trainer, process consultant and product manager. Sarah managed software implementations and delivered training at all client sites from 1999-2001 then went on to conduct sales demonstrations from 2002-2010 at colleges and universities throughout North America and internationally. Sarah has played an integral role in product and new market development for software and services. She works with prospective and current clients to deliver product demonstrations and coordinate new projects and services. She also conducts industry presentations on best practices in scheduling and works with new markets on process and best practice consultation.
Sarah currently works with the sales and account management teams to support client education on Ad Astra solutions.
Kelly Knetter, Chief Services Officer
Kelly recently joined Ad Astra in the Spring of 2012 leading the Professional Services Organization. Graduating from Baker University with a B.S.M. she spent 15 years developing her passion for managing people, the client experience and operational excellence. Prior to coming to Ad Astra, Kelly was Director of Client Operations at Paycor, Inc., where she was responsible for overall profit and loss, strategic vision planning and implementation, client satisfaction/retention and employee development for the Kansas City operation. Prior to Paycor, she was the Director of Client Services at Quest Diagnostics (former LabOne), where she worked for 12 years. Kelly is a Kansas City native, actively involved with the community and mother to two boys, Zack and Jake.
